EYFS 2025 Attendance & Absence Tracker
Supporting the new safeguarding requirement from September - with clarity, confidence, and care.
From September 2025, all early years providers will be expected to show how they monitor and respond to children’s absences, as part of new safeguarding expectations in the updated EYFS framework.
That’s why this tracker was created:
To help you feel prepared and supported, not overwhelmed.
What’s the new requirement?
The EYFS 2025 guidance recommends that all early years providers:
- Follow up promptly on any unexplained absence
- Keep a clear, written record of who was contacted and when
- Hold more than two emergency contact numbers, where possible
- Use professional judgment to escalate concerns when needed
This is all part of strengthening safeguarding practice and it’s now something Ofsted will expect to see evidence of during inspections.
Why this tracker exists
This resource was created by request from a loyal customer and I’m always happy to help when help is asked for 💛
I designed it with one goal in mind:
To give early years providers a practical, no-fuss way to stay on top of these new expectations, with space to record everything in one place, without adding stress or extra admin.
Important to note:
This is not a replacement for your attendance register. That still records who is present and absent each day. This tracker is something different - and essential.
It helps you record:
- The steps you took when a child didn’t show up
- Who you contacted, when, and what the outcome was
- Whether the absence was explained - and if any follow-up was needed
- Any concerns or safeguarding actions linked to attendance patterns
This is the kind of record that supports good safeguarding and shows that you’re alert, responsive, and proactive.
What’s inside:
- Emergency Contact Tracker (1 per child)
- Absence Log Pages (record up to 15 absences per child)
- Clear prompts for action taken, outcomes, and follow-up

Professionally designed. Created with care. Easy to use.
When a child is unexpectedly absent, what you do next matters.
This tracker helps you record it - clearly, calmly, and confidently.
